2017 Oscar Nominations: 'La La Land' Ties With 'Titanic' For Most Nominations

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in La La Land

Nominations for the 89th Annual Academy Awards were announced Tuesday morning, and the clear winner seems to be Damien Chazelle’s LA LA LAND with a record 14 nominations, tying with the record set by TITANIC in 1998. Barry Jenkins’ MOONLIGHT and Denis Villeneuve’s ARRIVAL tied with 8. All seems to be forgiven with Mel Gibson by Hollywood as his film HACKSAW RIDGE earned him 6 nominations including Best Director and Best Film along with Best Actor for Andrew Garfield. The complete list of nominations are below.

The Oscar nominations were announced live on television and live-streamed for the first time with presenters in six cities around the globe. Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs was joined by Demian Bichir, Dustin Lance Black, Glenn Close, Guillermo del Toro, Marcia Gay Harden, Terrence Howard, Jennifer Hudson, Brie Larson, Jason Reitman, Gabourey Sidibe, and Ken Watanabe helped to announce the nominees in 24 categories.

At least the Academy can’t be blamed this year for failing to nominate people of color with nominations for actors and filmmakers behind films such as MOONLIGHT, HIDDEN FIGURES, LION and FENCES.

Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the Academy Awards for the first time February 26 on ABC.
