Gwendoline Christie, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac Confirmed to Shoot Star Wars Episode VIII in January?

Star Wars Force Awakens press conference Kennedy

Nobody knows yet which characters will survive in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS since Disney and Lucasfilm have not screened it for the public, but producer Kathleen Kennedy may have hinted at which actors will return for Star Wars: Episode VIII at a recent press event. Listen to the interview below.

STARS WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS cast, director J.J. Abrams, producer Kathleen Kennedy and writer Lawrence Kasdan participated in two panels at a press event held in Los Angeles. The second panel included producer Kathleen Kennedy, Harrison Ford (“Han Solo”), Oscar Isaac ("Poe Dameron") Gwendoline Christie ("Captain Phasma") and John Boyega ("Finn"). Kennedy touched upon the two upcoming sequels to THE FORCE AWAKENS with director Rian Johnson helming Episode VIII and Colin Trevorrow. (Jurassic World) taking the reins on Episode IX.

The LucasFilm executive says J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson have spoken and compared notes with each other to make sure the story flows for one movie to the next. The same will happen with Johnson and Trevorrow. She added Trevorrow will be on Johnson’s set to continue the collaboration from one project to the next.

More importantly, Kennedy revealed who might return to the follow up when they begin production in January. She turned to the actors to the right of her which were John Boyega, Gwendoline Christie and Oscar Isaac, and announced, “These guys are getting ready to head over.” Should we take that to mean Captain Phasma, Finn and Poe Dameron will live to tell another story? She could've only been referring to one or two actors instead of the group, but that does give us hope especially with Poe falling into the hands of the dark side in the last trailer.

Mark Hamill had already confirmed he'd return to VIII when he announced on Twitter that he was re-growing out his beard.

So that still begs the question of who dies in Episode VII. In footage from one of the first extended trailer, many theories have circled the internet regarding whose body Rey is crying over. We don’t have to wait too much longer for the answer when STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS opens December 18.
