5 Things To Know About the New LEGO Trilogy

After earning $468 million worldwide at the box office, it’s no surprise that Warner Bros announced a new trilogy of films inspired by “The LEGO Movie” to be released within a four-year period.

Here’s what you need to know about the forthcoming LEGO Movies.

1. Two LEGO movies tread familiar ground with characters from “The LEGO Movie” while a third will be based on another line of LEGO toys featuring ninjas and dragons.

2. “Ninjago,” the first spin-off in the LEGO movie universe will release in 2016 with brand new characters on the big screen centering on the popular LEGO toys “Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.” These LEGO toys set in the world of ninjas were also a television series on Cartoon Network set in the world.

3. The LEGO Movie sequel won’t be arriving in theaters until 2018 with more adventures from Emmett (Guardians of the Galaxy's Chris Pratt) and Wyldstyle/Lucy (Elizabeth Banks) with hopefully a repeat performance from LEGO Batman (Will Arnett).

4. LEGO Batman will be getting his own stand alone movie in 2017 with “The LEGO Batman Movie directed by Chris McKay, who directed "Robot Chicken" (2005) and "Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III" (2010). Will Arnett is sure to reprise his scene-stealing turn as Batman/Bruce Wayne.

5. The LEGO Movie Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will return as producers. The pair are responsible for some of the most enjoyable films in recent years such as 21 Jump Street and it’s sequel 22 Jump Street and another animation favorite, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
