5 Reasons Why 'Baby Driver' Is A Must Watch

Ansel Elgort, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm and Eiza Gonzalez

If you're tired of reboots, reimagingings and superhero action flicks, race out to see BABY DRIVER. BABY DRIVER is a different sort of action film that's driven by music. So believe the hype because this Edgar Wright movie starring Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Jon Hamm, Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx and Eiza Gonzalez is the type of film you want to see more than once. Here are five reasons why BABY DRIVER is one of the best action films in a long time.

1. Edgar Wright

The British filmmaker is one of the most original directors out there. From his break out hit SHAUN OF THE DEAD, to HOT FUZZ, THE WORLD'S END, SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD - his film's have the right balance of action, comedy and an original storyline with quirky characters that make his movies super fun to watch.

With BABY DRIVER, Wright delivers something we've never seen before and it's a welcome relief to the summer deluge of unoriginal movies.

2. Ansel Elgort

Ansel Elgort may have been passed up for the role of young Han Solo in the Star Wars stand alone movie, but in BABY DRIVER Ansel proves he can be a leading man.

BABY DRIVER's Ansel Elgort Reveals Which Driving Stunts He Performed Elgort can be a real charmer in films such as in THE FAULT OF OUR STARS (not so much in DIVERGENT), and pulled off a difficult character as Baby. He had the right balance of charm, wit, seriousness and likeability.

3. Originality

While the plot may not be original, the delivery of BABY DRIVER is. Ansel Elgort is Baby, a highly-skilled getaway driver is working towards his last heist so he can be free from his crime boss (Kevin Spacey), but of course nothing goes as planned especially when he meets Debora (Lily James).

While that storyline may not sound all that original, the way Wright captures the action and plays it to music is what makes this film so original.

4. A-List Cast

BABY DRIVER boasts an awesome cast with veteran actors like Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx leading a cast of young newcomers like Lily James, Ansel Elgort and Eiza Gonzalez . The difference in age also lends to the tension in the film. Jamie Foxx and Jon Hamm are by far the scariest characters they've played in their career.

When you have such a large cast, it's often difficult for each character to be a standout, but the cast with the help of witty and telling dialogue helps define each one of them.

5. Music-Timed Action

The driving stunts in BABY DRIVER are insane and ultra cool.

People love the FAST AND FURIOUS movies because of the ridiculous car action, but BABY DRIVER has much cooler car stunts because they are real and the cars are regular sedan-type cars rather than fancy, fast cars which most of us will never own.  It takes real skill to be able to shoot a scene timed to the beat of a song especially in the shoot out scene.

Director Edgar Wright told CineMovie during an interview that everything was timed to precision. The characters don't shoot at random on set. They came very well prepared the day of the shoot and the stunt coordinator instructed the actors exactly when to shoot off their guns. Ansel Elgort in our interview also said he's never worked with a director so well-prepared on set and knew exactly what he was looking for.

The retro soundtrack definitely added lots of the flavor to the movie. Wright chose lesser known tracks instead of going for the obvious classics.
