Top 5 Best Moments in the Game of Thrones Season 5 Premiere

Game of Thrones's Littlefinger and Alayne

After months of agonizing wait, Game of Thrones has finally returned! From what we’ve already seen, it seems like we are in for a whirlwind of adventure and controversy this season. Let’s take at some of the best moments from The Wars to Come.

Young Cersei Learning About Her Future As Queen

The episode opens up with a flashback to when Cersei was younger and learned about her future from a witch. "Everyone wants to know their future... until they know their future," the witch warns. She is given a chance to ask the witch three questions and the witch answers. We find that Cersei won’t be marrying the prince but the king and will be queen for a short time until someone younger and more beautiful casts her down and takes the crown. We are then brought back to the present where Cersei passes the line of mourners for her father, and among them, waiting to give their respect, was Margaery Tyrell who is poised to take Cersei’s place as queen.

The Prospect Of Tyrion Joining Forces With Daenerys

A bearded Tyrion arrives on the scene in the city of Pentos, which he couldn't have done without the help of Varys and Jaimie. Varys argues that Westeros needs saving from itself and reveals the idea that Tyrion offer up his talents and help. Tyrion remains skeptical, but he is given the option to stay and drink himself to death or decide if the world is worth fighting for and ride with Varys to Meereen where they would meet Daenerys. After consideration, it looks like he is all in based on what he asks: "Can I drink myself to death on the road to Meereen?"

The Burning of Mance Rayder

Still a prisoner of Stannis, Mance Rayder is visited by Jon Snow. Mance is given an ultimatum, but he refuses to bend the knee and therefore, he is lined up for death. He opts to be put to death rather than surrender and lose all the respect he had earned from the tribes. He acknowledges that being burned alive is a hard way to go but sees it as a better option than betraying his people. When Mance is tied up and ready for death, Melisandre warns that this is what will happen to all those who side with him and lights the wood with a torch. Just as the fire’s flames begin to burn Mance, he is saved from the agony of burning to death when Jon fires an arrow straight to his heart, killing him instantly.

The Sons of The Harpy

An underground resistance in Meereen and Astapor has risen up against their new queen, Daenerys Targaryen. They don't agree with queen's ideas. We first see one of the Sons of the Harpy when one of Daenerys’ Unsullied visits a brothel and lays down with a prostitute. His throat is slit and the last thing he sees is that ominous mask. No one knows who they are without their masks but it is questionable whether the Mother of Dragons will be able to keep her people under control if she cannot even free her dragons without worrying about her and other people’s lives.

Littlefinger and Sansa Head West

Just as we get a small snippet of Brienne and Podrick talking about trying to find Sansa, Baelish and Sansa pass right by them in a carriage, leaving the Vale. Sansa points out that they are heading west. Baelish then tells her that they are heading somewhere so far that even Cersei can’t get her hands on her. There is a lot of speculation from fans on where they are headed, but we will have to keep watching to find out!

There are many questions I am sure most of the viewers are asking themselves, like what happens when Tyrion joins forces with Daenerys? What follows after the burning of Mance and Jon having saved him the agonizing pain of fire? Where is Sansa headed? Perhaps some of these questions will be answered in the next episode this Sunday (watch on HBO Go or check here for listings). If this first episode is any indication of the rest of the season, you will definitely not want to stop watching.
