THE ACCOUNTANT 2 stars Cynthia Addai-Robinson and Daniella Piñeda don’t take a backseat to Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal in THE ACCOUNTANT 2, rather, they play significant roles alongside the main action. Addai-Robinson and Piñeda open up about their experience filming the action-packed sequel—and what it meant to step into physically and emotionally charged roles.

Cynthia Addai-Robinson, who reprises her role as Treasury agent Marybeth Medina, reflected on how both she and her character have grown since the first film. “Marybeth has evolved, grown, she’s in this sort of elevated position within the Treasury Department,” she said at the global press conference. “And for myself as a person and an actor, I felt like I had also grown.”

Returning to familiar ground with new confidence, Addai-Robinson embraced her role as the audience’s point of entry. “All of their shenanigans, I also got to just sort of bear witness to and be like, ‘All right, these guys are kind of crazy and they’re also kind of challenging my view of how to serve justice really.’” She added that seeing audiences visibly react to the action sequences brought a real sense of accomplishment. “When you hear an audience audibly gasp, then you know you’re doing something right.”

Producer and star Ben Affleck considers Addai-Robinson the protagonist of THE ACCOUNTANT 2, even though his name and Bernthal headline the advertising material. “I mean, the secret of this movie is that Cynthia is the protagonist, really. And she's the lead in the movie,” he said. “She is the entree for the audience, which means we get to play character parts, and there is a kind of relief from not having to carry a certain... There are a whole bunch of expectations and stuff that go with being the lead in the movie because, as Cynthia says, the audience is really projecting themselves onto you.” He added, “So that affords Jon and I the luxury of doing the sort of two-hander as you call odd couple thing.”

For newcomer Daniella Piñeda, stepping into the ACCOUNTANT universe as Anaïs brought a fresh dose of intensity—and a lot of bruises. “No, I would say it was definitely next level,” she said of the action. “There is something really compelling about watching a predator do their thing. At the same time, I felt like there’s more to her, there’s more layers there.”

While her character might be lethal on screen, off screen she shared camaraderie with Addai-Robinson. “I love to beat the shit out of Cynthia. But we were hugging in between takes and it was nice,” she joked. “I got really lucky I had a good partner.”

Their dynamic—full of conflict and chemistry—adds to the elevated level of female action in the film. As Pineda put it, “It’s not necessarily a character you see all the time… but it’s the type of roles that I would like to see more women get to play.”

Together, the two actresses deliver both grit and depth, reminding audiences that emotional arcs and physical prowess aren’t mutually exclusive. Their performances are set to be a highlight when THE ACCOUNTANT 2 hits theaters on April 25.
