Firearms expert TJ Johnston helped our guest reporter Teresa Garza get a good grip on handling different types of guns similar to the ones Zoe Saldana uses in COLOMBIANA at the Burro Canyon Shooting Park in Azusa, CA. They began with the proper stance for aiming, to loading a gun, to proper handling of a hot or loaded firearm including safety precautions.
TJ told Teresa in a sit down interview that she had it harder on the range than actors because they are not shooting live ammunition as they were on the shooting range and aiming for a bullseye. Actors use blanks and don't aim their guns at direct hits, but the characters have to look good or believable holding the guns on film, said the vetrean gun expert.
The revolver was the hardest firearm for Teresa who kept placing her thumb in the way of the moving parts. TJ, however, said she mastered the big guns and called her dangerous. So if Zoe is Colombiana then Teresa is the kick ass Mexicana version.
COLOMBIANA is now playing in movie theaters.
