Two new sequels and two indies movies open up this weekend of October 18. Which one should you see out of the new films? MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL, ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP, JOJO RABBIT and THE LIGHTHOUSE.
GEMINI MAN director Ang Lee and WETA Digital have given us the first CGI human, and shot in 4K 3D to give viewers a more immersive experience. Shot with 120 frames per second the result is a virtual reality-like feel but you also get the video look. Is this the way of the future for cinema?
I thought the JOKER movie was the best film this year until I watched PARASITE. This Korean film by director/writer Bong Joon-Ho is like nothing you've ever seen and the pacing keeps surprising you at every turn.
Loosely based on real events, Natalie Portman is NASA astronaut Lisa Cole who can't resume her normal life after going into space. Director Noah Hawley gives us an experimental film that feels more jarring than Lucy's descent into madness.
SEMPER FI doesn’t know what it wants to be. The testosterone-fueled melodrama turns into a prison break movie.
SEMPER FI stars Jai Courtney, Finn Wittrock, Nat Wolff, Beau Knapp and Arturo Castro. Courtney plays Cal, a by-the-book police officer and Marine Corps reservist. When his brother Oyster (Wolff) receives an unfair prison sentence, Cal enlists his brothers in arms to help break out his younger sibling.
The media hoopla about the JOKER movie starring Joaquin Phoenix is overboard. This Joker origins story is a character study on how someone evolves into a violent criminal. Director Todd Phillips took poetic license to the story but in no way does it make the future DC villain out to be the hero. Rather he depicts Arthur Fleck's descent into madness to become the Joker. Watch our JOKER review.
Jennifer Lopez is the stand out in HUSTLERS, but unfortunately the film lacks depth. HUSTLERS stars Constance Wu, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart of Riverdale fame and cameos by Cardi B and Lizzo. Watch our video review.
Dreamworks Animation has topped themselves with a Pixar-level film with ABOMINABLE. The animated film is charming, ridiculously funny and visually-stunning. Watch our full review below.
Pennywise is back in IT: CHAPTER 2 with Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy and Bill Hader assuming the adult roles. How does the new Loser's Club compare to the young squad? Watch my movie review below for the scoop on the IT sequel.
