Kelvin Harrison Jr cast in The Hunger Games movie news

The world of Panem is expanding once again — and it's bringing fresh star power with it. Lionsgate has officially announced that Kelvin Harrison Jr. has been cast as Beetee, the brilliant tech-savvy victor of the 34th Hunger Games and father of Ampert Latier, a tribute in the 50th Games, in the upcoming film adaptation of THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING.

The film, based on Suzanne Collins' latest best-selling novel, is set to hit theaters on November 20, 2026.

Revisiting Panem Before Katniss Everdeen

SUNRISE ON THE REAPING transports fans 24 years before the original HUNGER GAMES trilogy, beginning on the morning of the reaping for the Second Quarter Quell—the 50th Hunger Games. It’s a time of political unrest and personal sacrifice, and Beetee’s story is one of quiet brilliance, courage, and the early seeds of rebellion.

The film will be directed by Francis Lawrence, who returns to the franchise after helming four previous HUNGER GAMES films. Billy Ray will adapt the screenplay, with Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force producing. Cameron MacConomy will serve as executive producer.

A Billion-Dollar Franchise Returns

THE HUNGER GAMES film franchise has grossed over $3.3 billion at the global box office — and anticipation is already building for this next chapter. The novel Sunrise on the Reaping sold 1.5 million copies in its first week across the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, including 1.2 million in the U.S. alone — doubling the debut sales of THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES and tripling those of MOCKINGJAY.

Kelvin Harrison Jr.: A Rising Star

Kelvin Harrison Jr., known for his critically acclaimed performances in LUCE, WAVES, and CHEVALIER, continues to make bold choices. He recently voiced Taka in MUFASA: THE LION KING and will star as Jean-Michel Basquiat in the upcoming Samo Lives, a project he is also executive producing.

His casting as Beetee — a fan-favorite character known for his intellect and quiet resolve — is already generating excitement among longtime fans and newcomers alike.
