First, the new season takes place seven years after the finale. P.A.D.R.E. will play a much bigger role

Original cast member Kim Dickens returns as Madison after being written off the show in season 4. The character was re-introduced in the season 7 finale, and she will play a much bigger role in the final season. At the WonderCon panel, the actor revealed her character will be doing penance for her wrongdoings. "She sort of changed the tables on what she was doing with P.A.D.R.E.," said the actor. "She saw the light by meeting Morgan, and made the decision to go get Mo."

At the panel, Dickens is thrilled to be back to close out Madison's arc which was left open-ended in her season 4 departure.

June will also make amends for some of her actions in the new season. Elfman says her character “is at her darkest moment” after losing more people she loves and now she has done the unthinkable for P.A.D.R.E.

Another character in need of atoning will return this final season. Producer Ian Goldberg teased Strand (Colman Domingo) will be back, and he’s contemplating his state of mind after his dark persona took over in season 7. “He may have the most drastic reinvention,” he said at the WonderCon panel.
