Dreamworks recently held a preview of their two animated projects slated for 2012 at the Directors Guild of America in Hollywood, CA. CineMovie got a sneak peek behind the making of and a taste of what to expect from "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" and Rise of the Guardians."
Third time is a charm. Madagascar seems to be getting bigger and better and for sure will entertain the this time around. With three directors on this film the animation has improved, the story line has become more engaging and it's new characters are entertaining. Added to the cast are Bryan Cranston playing a Russian tiger, Jessica Chastain as a jaguar and Martin Short voicing Stefano and Italian sea lion. The action sequence which we viewed consisted of Alex and his gang being chased around Monaco by animal control inspector Captain Chantel DuBois (Frances McDormand). I was highly impressed by this chase sequence and the humor that was written into it. At times I forgot that I was watching an animated film with it's extreme close-ups and slow motion sequences. It is obvious that this franchise keeps improving the older it gets.
The second film which was previewed was "Rise of the Guardians" which will be in theaters on November 21st. The film revolves around the Boogieman who launches an assault on Earth and several mythical beings, Santa, the Easter Bunny, Jack Frost, and the Tooth fairy who join forces to stop him. The all star cast includes Chris Pine (Jack Frost), North (Alec Baldwin), Bunnymund (Hugh Jackman), Tooth (Isla Fisher) and Jude Law (Pitch). The film which is based on William Joyce's "The Guardians of Childhood" book series focuses on Jack Frost a boy who doesn't believe in himself and in the world of the Guardians if no one believes in you, you seize to exist. Actor Chris Pine was on hand to introduce a few clips from the film. What appealed to Chris was the idea that our imaginations and how powerful it can be.
This film is one that will please both adults and children alike. It's a darker take or rather a realistic take on Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy and the worlds that they come from. What is it that humans fear the most and that's fear itself and that's what the Boogie Man intends to do. It's truly a dark tale but the action and animation are state of the art. As a viewer I became engaged to learn more about these Guardians and the land that they each come from.
