The STAR WARS franchise on Disney+ is about to expand so that we may never leave our homes again. Thursday at the The Walt Disney Company’s Investor Day event, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced an exciting array of STAR WARS spin-offs coming to Disney's streaming channel in addition to the Obi-Wan Kenobi and ROGUE ONE spin-off with Diego Luna. Seven new series are in the works for Lando Calrissian, Ahsoka, and lesser known figures. One of the biggest news was the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. Now streaming on Disney+ is SAFETY, the real-life story of Clemson University football SAFETY Ray McElrathbey played by Jay Reeves who secretly smuggled his 11-year old brother Fahmarr portrayed by Thaddeus J. Mixson into the dorm rooms while playing college football at Clemson University. He was willing to choose his brother over his athletic career but the college community eventually rallied around him and his young brother. The cast and director Reginald Hudlin talked about the film over a Zoom conference. CineMovie had the opportunity to ask Jay and Ray about this endearing story.
New in theaters and On Demand December 11 is WILD MOUNTAIN THYME with a great cast that includes Jamie Dornan, Emily Blunt, Christopher Walken and Jon Hamm. Dornan plays an odd Irish farmer Antony who’s clueless that his neighbor played by Blunt is in love with him. During a Q&A with the stars and director John Patrick Shanley after a virtual premiere, Blunt says this character may be closest to Dornan’s real personality. Dornan admits she may be on to something but he’s not built for the farm life like his character.
LET THEM ALL TALK features a phenomenal cast with Meryl Streep, Lucas Hedges, Dianne Wiest, Candice Bergen and Gemma Chan starring. Steven Soderbergh's latest flick for HBO MAX is a lot of talk and little action. The characters talk circles around each other with no progression in the story. It's a missed opportunity to see Streep, Wiest and Bergen exude girl power. Instead we get an awkward and tepid relationship that's uncomfortable to watch which might be Soderbergh's intent in his latest experimental project.
