Born in Mexico and raised in the United States, Jacob Vargas tells CineMovie "he grew up in a in a religious family" and constantly heard stories about the devil among other urban legends such as El Cucuy and Chupacabras. Jacob recounts a story his father told him about time in Mexico when he saw the Devil while on a search for a lost treasure. His father encountered a dog which morphed into the devil, and that stopped his father's quest for gold. Jacob often questioned whether his father told the stories to keep them in line or it was actually true but he certainly is a believer of good and bad forces.
For his role as Ramirez, Vargas has to convince everyone the devil is causing havoc in the elevator. As an actor, according to Vargas, he had to play the part describing having to "go deep and dark" so much so that when he went home, he was depressed and suffered from nightmares. He worked up a scare as his character that he couldn't shake the feeling when he went home after production.
Jacob can also relate to the elevator passengers losing control and turning on each other. Jacob tells CineMovie he was once stuck in an elevator with drunk patrons which began as a fun experience but ten minutes later, the passengers got restless and annoying. Luckily for Jacob, he says no devil made his presence known during his ordeal with drunk people.
Jacob also revealed during our sit-down that DEVIL producer and The Last Airbender director M. Night Shyamalan as customary in all Shyamalan movies, shot a cameo appearance in DEVIL, but decided later to take out the scene to avoid confusion about his producer role.
