The King's Speech, The Fighter, and The Social Network received the most nominations for the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards which were announced Tuesday morning in Beverly Hills by Josh Duhamel, Katie Holmes, and Blair Underwood.  Other films in the running for Best Motion Picture and in the Acting categories include Black Swan, Inception, and The Kids Are Alright.  The aforementioned films are not a surprise with most nominations anticipated but there were some surprising choices by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

As expected, Colin Firth received a nomination for best actor in a motion picture drama for The King's Speech and will be competing with the younger generation of actors including Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter), Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), James Franco (127 Hours), and Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine).  Christian Bale also received a Best Supporting Actor nom for THE FIGHTER along with Michael Douglas (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), the new Spiderman Andrew Garfield (The Social Network), Jeremy Renner (The Town), and Geoffrey Rush (The King's Speech). Johnny Depp received two nominations in the same category for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical for The Tourist and Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

Newcomers Emma Stone (Easy A) and Jennifer Lawrence (A Winter's Bone) will be competing with veteran actresses Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole), Halle Berry (Frankie & Alice), Natalie Portman (Black Swan), Julianne Moore (The Kids Are Alright), Annette Bening (The Kids Are Alright) and others for the Best Actress in a drama or comedy.

The announcements also included some not so obvious choices with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp taking best actor nominations in a comedy or musical for their high-flying action in The Tourist.  During the announcement, many in the press gasped when Johnny Depp's name was mentioned for The Tourist. Other suprises included Cher and Christina Aguilera's Burlesque which was nominated in the Best Motion Picture category for comedy or musical.

Directors Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), David Fincher (The Social Network), Top Hooper (A King's Speech), Christopher Nolan (Inception), and David O. Russell (The Fighter) are in the runnning for best director as are their films for Best Motion Picturem -- all in the Drama category.

Christina Aguilera received her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song for Burlesque's "Bound to You" along with Carrie Underwood's song "There's A Place for Us" for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyager of the Dawn Treader.  Nine Inch Nail's Trent Reznor gets his first Golden Globe award as a composer for the Original Score to The Social Network.
