CineMovie sat down Sunday for one-on-one interviews with HAYWIRE stars Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, and newcomer and mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano to talk about their new espionage action thriller directed by Steven Soderbergh. Look out for our video interviews with the action stars, but here are highlights from the interviews.
Antonio Banderas was not able to make the morning session of the interviews, but we still had 3 of the HAYWIRE stars.Gina Carano, the star of the action movie, said she was not aware of Steven Soderbergh the director when he first approached the MMA fighter about making her debut in a Hollywood film. However, she was a fan of two of his movies. She has since learned a lot about the auteur. She also told CineMovie she felt privileged working with such big names but really felt like royalty acting alongside Michael Douglas.
Channing Tatum told CineMovie he was very aware of who Gina Carano was as a MMA fighter and followed her career closely as a fan of the mixed martial arts sport. He joked that he was afraid of going mano-a-mano with not only a champion, but a woman. Gina kept coaxing him into hitting her during the brutal scene where they beat the crap out of each other. He also called it a dream come true to work with the Ocean's Eleven and Contagion director. He talked briefly about his next project with Soderbergh, Magic Mike which is inspired by his real life as a stripper.
Ewan McGregor told CineMovie he was put through the ringer with a last minute fight training for a sequence where Gina's character comes after him. The scene was not originally in the movie, but was added later. They shot the scene at dusk and shot it rather quickly because they were losing light. Soderbergh is known to prefer using natural light as opposed to lights on set.
Stay tuned for the video interviews this week and next on CineMovie.

About the movie:
This dynamic action-thriller directed by Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh (Traffic) boasts a talented cast that includes Channing Tatum (GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra), Ewan McGregor (The Ghost Writer), Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), Antonio Banderas (The Legend of Zoro), Bill Paxton ("Big Love"), Michael Douglas (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), Michael Angarano (Almost Famous); and introduces mixed martial arts (MMA) superstar Gina Carano as Mallory Kane, in a demanding lead role that has her performing her own high-adrenaline stunts. Mallory Kane is a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world. After successfully freeing a Chinese journalist held hostage, she is double crossed and left for dead by someone close to her in her own agency. Suddenly the target of skilled assassins who know her every move, Mallory must find the truth in order to stay alive. Using her black-ops military training, she devises an ingenious--and dangerous--trap. But when things go haywire, Mallory realizes she'll be killed in the blink of an eye unless she finds a way to turn the tables on her ruthless adversary.
