Russell Crowe Hints at Possible Approach to Playing Dr. Jekyll in 'The Mummy' with Tom Cruise

While promoting his new film THE NICE GUYS, Crowe teased his role as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde in a reboot of Universal's monster cinematic universe starting with THE MUMMY. The Australian actor has started doing his research by going back to the original 1886 novella by Robert Louis Stevenson. Crowe calls Stevenson’s “Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde” "psychologically perverse.” Will that have an influence on how he plays that character?

"If you can start thinking where you can go with that duality of character... yeah it's really exciting."

Crowe is also excited to see where THE MUMMY director Alex Kurtzman will take the film.

"What Alex is doing on The Mummy... it's going to be really exciting to help build that universe and to be one of the....such a classic character."

While being careful not to reveal any specific details, he can say he’s looking forward to working with Tom Cruise who he’s known since the early 90s but the two busy actors rarely see each other.

Listen to Crowe explain his possible approach to his new role and working with Cruise below.
