Surprisingly, John Wayne remains a movie icon and continues to come up in the polls every year since 1994. For 2010, he rose in popularity from 7 to 3. Who knew the 65+ crowd had so much pull online!
That might explain why actors under 30 failed to crack the top 10 list. The next 5 spots were dominated by other veteran actors. It was a three-way tie for 6th place with Tom Hanks, George Clooney and Julia Roberts sharing the spot. Sandra Bullock landed in the number 10 spot, making her ony the third actress included in the male-dominated list.
The Harris Poll® reflects Hollywood's obsession with male-oriented projects which leaves little room for female-driven films that are not romantic comedies. If more quality roles were created for women, perhaps more actresses would be on people's radar.
