You would think that STAR TREK INTO THE DARKENESS was opening next month with all the early buzz surrounding the most anticipated film of 2013.  Fans are now being treated to a new motion movie poster and a featurette with JJ Abrams.

For a film shrouded in secrecy for so long, JJ Abrams and Paramount Pictures are cutting loose with extras leading up to the May 17 release of STAR TREK INTO THE DARKNESS.  Some may have already seen the first 9-minutes of the film when it previewed ahead of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in December. JJ Abram's name has been the talk of the town since it was announced he would be helming the new chapter of the Star Wars franchise under Disney which means he's got bigger fish to fry now that the new Star Trek movie is closer to release. He'll be busy keeping Star Wars details secret.

The new animated movie poster features a moving image of a crumbling city over audio of Benedict Cumberbatch as John Harrison narrating the chilling message of imminent vengeance on Earth.  The motion movie poster combines an earlier one-sheet with audio from the teaser trailer.

In the minute and a half featurette released on YouTube, JJ Abrams, Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, and Zachary Quinto boast about the sequel's superiority to the last film. JJ Abrams says he "definitely wanted to up the ante as much as we could," while the actors playing James T. Kirk, Spock, and Uhura describe the film as "stunningly beautiful," "relentless," and "this is the kind of film 3D was made for."  Hopefully, we'll be equally pleased as the actors with the final product.

STAR TREK INTO THE DARKNESS lands in theaters May 17, 2013.
