SKYFALL Early Movie Reviews

Skyfall-Javier-Bardem

SKYFALL, the latest James Bond movie, opened in the United Kingdom October 26 and the Brits are chiming in on whether this 007 film lives up to the critics hype before it opens in the colonies.

North America doesn't get their chance to see SKYFALL until  November 9th, so until then we're looking to the British fans on YouTube to give us the scoop on whether the 23rd film in the James Bond franchise will be worth watching. Daniel Craig returns as James Bond in his third outing as the spy we loved for over 50 years, and the majority of film critics are praising the film. Directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty), Entertainment Weekly calls SKYFALL the best James Bond since Goldeneye, Hollywood Reporter calls it a "beautifully made film" that is "gripping while still brandishing," and the Playlist goes so far to compare Mendes work to Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins.

SKYFALL also stars Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Naomi Harris, Judi Dench, and Albert Finney.  SKYFALL opens November 9, 2012 in North America.

THE FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE Movie Review

Flying Swords of Dragon Gate Jet Li movie image

China' s highest grossing IMAX 3D hit, FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE starring Jet Li, comes to the states with subtitles. Is it too much to ask to watch a visually-stunning film while reading the dialogue? Our Melinda Wilson tackled the job with her 3D glasses.

FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE is the first Chinese film made in IMAX 3D. Borrowing experts from James Cameron’s Avatar to learn the technique, this action packed martial arts film was a tremendous hit in China becoming the 12th highest grossing film of all time in that country. As an IMAX title, it has the distinction of being the 4th largest grossing IMAX film and now this highly lauded feature is coming to the United States with subtitles. Add a comment

Jeremy Renner takes over the Bourne series and now that THE BOURNE LEGACY is out in theatres, and the reactions are very mixed.  In some of the fan movie reviews below, movie-goers are complaning there is not enough action with a lot of confusiing elements to complicate the watching experience.  Take a look at what other comments the fans had to say.

The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: THE BOURNE LEGACY. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For THE BOURNE LEGACY, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

Ice Age 4 Continental Drift - A Family Review

Ice-Age-4-movie-review

When you hear 'fun for the whole family" you immediately think of the most overused movie quote for an animated film, but ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT actually fits that description.  As usual, I sent off the family off to an early Saturday morning screening (I like to sleep in) of the fourth installment of Ice Age and every age group came back raving about it.

Fan Video Reviews: DARK SHADOWS

Dark Shadows Barnabas stills

DARK SHADOWS may not be Tim Burton and Johnny Depp's best collaboration, according to the critics. Rotten Tomatoes ranked the adaptation of the 60s television gothic soap opera as 41% rotten on the review site, but what are the fans saying about the gothic comedy?  Watch their fan video reviews.

DARK SHADOWS opened to the number two slot behind Marvel's The Avengers with a take of $28.5 million for the Mother's Day weekend. The Avengers broke records for the second weekend, adding another $100 million to its bank account and beating Avatar's record of $75.6 mllion for a second weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.

DARK SHADOWS's opening came up short for a Burton/Depp film.  DARK SHADOWS weekend opening ranks fourth for the dynamic duo behind Alice in Wonderland's $116.1 million, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's $56.2 million, Sleepy Hallow's $30.1 and then the dark comedy at $28.5 million.  Sweeney Todd opened to less than stellar numbers at $9.3 million.
