'Mulan' 2020 Movie Review

Mulan 2020 movie review

MULAN's cinematography is worthy of a big screen viewing but given the current pandemic, Disney made the right decision sending it to Disney+ as a premium access choice for families to enjoy. The live-action adaptation of the 1998 animated movie is a totally different vibe and tone with many changes. MULAN has it all - majestic landscapes, gorgeous costumes, a great cast and a great message for young girls.

Review: 'Bill and Ted Face The Music' But Not The Times

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter in Bill & Ted Face The Music

BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE was quintessential 80s, and for the time it was a novel concept but the 2.0 version feels out of date in BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC. However, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are most excellent as Bill and Ted especially when they meet other versions of themselves in the future, but their offspring were mere carbon copies of the original dudes that never catches on. There's one new character that steals the show.

'Robin's Wish' Review: The Disease Behind Robin William's Suicide

 Robins Wish Robin William's Documentary

Don't expect a biographical documentary on Robin Williams in the new film, ROBIN'S WISH. Instead ROBIN'S WISH sets the record straight about William's suicide. His widow Susan Schneider Williams describes how the comedian/actor was literally not in his right mind when he took his life. After his death, an autopsy revealed he was suffering from a degeneration of the brain called Lewy Body Dementia. Williams' wife, friends and NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM director Shawn Levy and tv producer/writer David E. Kelly describe his deteriorating state of mind leading to his death.

'Desert One' Review: A Gripping Story Of A Failed US Rescue Mission

Desert One documentary

If you're looking for a historical-based story, DESERT ONE recounts the failed U.S. Special Forces rescue mission during the 1980 Iran hostage crisis with commentary from then President Jimmy Carter, the former hostages, the Iranian hostage takers and the servicemen involved. Two-time Academy Award®-winner Barbara Kopple chronicles the misson from the very start through the disastrous result. The mission was jinxed from the onset. The film offers much detail about the incursion into Iran during the dead of night with some never before seen archival material and animated re-enactments.

'Cut Throat City' Movie Review: RZA's Timely Feature Film

Cut Throat City movie review CineMovie

RZA directs the riveting and timely, CUT THROAT CITY, a crime thriller that explores the reasons why black men turn to crime when there are no other options available. The film which is now playing in movie theaters, stars a solid cast with Shameik Moore (INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, DOPE), Ethan Hawke, Terrence Howard, Eiza Gonzales, Wesley Snipes and Tip T.I. Harris. If you liked SET IT OFF (1996) starring Jada Pinkett-Smith and Queen Latifah, this is a more violent male version of that film.

'The One and Only Ivan' Movie Review: Get The Tissue Box

The One and Only Ivan movie review CineMovie

Disney+'s THE ONE AND ONLY IVAN is the perfect family movie to watch and discuss in your living room when it premieres Friday, August 14. Adapted from Katherine Applegate's book, the screenplay by Mike White isn't subtle about the subject matter, but sometimes we need a kick in the head when it comes to animal captivity.

‘Murder in the Woods’ Movie Review: Just Another Teen Slasher Film But With Latinos

Murder in the Wood movie review

The virgin. The floozy. A sex-starved teen and the jock, all walk into a cabin in the woods, and one by one they die a horrible death. MURDER IN THE WOODS is just like every other teen slasher movie out there except this one stars a Latinx cast, and written and directed by Latinx filmmakers. Usually I'd applaud the effort, but sadly MURDER IN THE WOODS is a carbon copy of past movies, and a missed opportunity to inject new life into the slasher/horror genre with Latinx flavor.

'Paydirt' Movie Review Starring Val Kilmer and Luke Goss

Paydirt Val Kilmer movie review

Nothing irks me more than bad acting, and PAYDIRT is full of it, mostly coming from the female characters who are only there to be objectified. Starring Luke Goss (THE HARD WAY, HELLBOY II, BLADE II) and Val Kilmer (THE DOORS, HEAT, TOMBSTONE), the film from writer/directer Christian Sesma is rife with bad dialogue, an unwatchable performance by Kilmer and a perpetuation of the Latino stereotype.
