PBS Kicks Off Holiday Shows

Award-winning pop sensation and "American Idol" alum David Archuleta and acclaimed actor Michael York join the renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir in an energetic Christmas celebration in this year's annual concert from Salt Lake City airing December 13.

HOLIDAY CELEBRATION 2010 and Part I of the Frontline series FROM JESUS TO CHRIST:  THE FIRST CHRISTIANS.  Other Holiday programs include GEORGE BALANCHINE’S “THE NUTCRACKER” and CHRISTMAS AT ST. OLAF And CHRISTMAS IN YELLOWSTONE.  PLUS, encore presentations of the hit series DOWNTON ABBEY.

Recorded live in the spectacular 21,000-seat Conference Center in Salt Lake City, this remarkable event combines elegant dancing, masterful musical performances and storytelling. Complete with Yuletide favorites such as “Silent Night” and “Joy to the World,” the memorable performance also includes unique music such as “Los pastores a belén,” sung by David Archuleta completely in Spanish, Michael York’s touching tale about the humble beginnings of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, together with moving organ, choir and orchestra performances.

New York City Ballet’s beloved holiday favorite, George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™, airs live from Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater. Set to Tchaikovsky’s glorious score, Balanchine’s Nutcracker features New York City Ballet’s entire roster of more than 150 dancers and musicians, as well as two alternating casts of 50 children from the School of American Ballet, the New York City Ballet’s official school. In addition to Balanchine’s choreography, the seminal work features scenery by Rouben Ter-Arutunian, costumes by Karinska and lighting by Mark Stanley, after the original design by Ronald Bates.

This new production of one of the nation’s most highly acclaimed annual musical celebration marks the 100th anniversary of the annual Christmas Festival from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Featuring St. Olaf’s renowned choirs and orchestra, the program’s rich blending of compositions will highlight selections from previous Christmas Festivals, including excerpts from R.V. Williams Hodie. Additionally, this centennial performance will debut newly commissioned works by American composers André J. Thomas and David N. Childs.

En la última edición del año, Karla hace un balance de su 2011, habla de su vida personal, su matrimonio con Tommy Torres, y revela que se encuentra preparada para ser madre en el momento en que Dios lo decida.

La guapa actriz cierra un gran año en su carrera con broche de oro, haciendo un balance del 2011, su vida matrimonial y el sueño de ser madre.

Karla, a quien vemos brillar a diario con su personaje de Rebecca en la telenovela "La casa de al lado", le confesó a la revista sobre la futura maternidad: "No estoy evitando ni estoy buscando. Si se da, será de manera espontánea. El día que esto se dé, haré un alto en mi carrera. Me considero una persona muy bendecida y consentida; ya estoy lista para eso".

Karla Monroig también compartió su gran espíritu altruista hablando de su ayuda a causas como la lucha contra el cáncer, a través de la Fundación Susana G. Komen o con la Fundación Orfanato de Niños de Cristo, en República Dominicana. "Papá Dios me ha puesto una gran responsabilidad, y es algo que me llena", le dijo a "Buen Hogar".

Bella y polifacética Karla se ha destacado en cine, teatro, telenovelas, aparte de incursionar como presentadora de televisión y radio. Además de su importante papel en "La casa de al lado" para la cadena Telemundo, Karla participó de la novela de Televisa "Inocente de ti". También tuvo un papel protagónico en "Alguien te mira", "Más sabe el diablo", "Dueña y Señora", "El rostro de Analía" y "Dame chocolate", cuyo personaje le valió recibir el premio "Estrella sin límites" de New York a la "Mejor actriz".

The Social Network was the big winner at the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards hosted by Ricky Gervais.

The Social Network took Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Director for David Fincher, and Nine Inch Nails frontman turned composer Trent Reznor won his first award as Best Original Score for the movie based on the creation of Facebook.  The Fighter, as expected, swept the Best Supporting Actor and Actress category with Christian Bale and Melisso Leo taking home Golden Globes.  The Kids Are Alright tied with The Fighter for two wins for Best Actress Annette Bening and Best Comedy or Musical.

DGA Nominees Announced

DGA Nominees

The Director's Guild of America announced Monday the five nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for 2010. Filmmakers Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), David Fincher (The Social Network), Tom Hooper (The  King's Speech), David O. Russell (The Fighter) and Christopher Nolan (Inception) will be competing for the prestigious DGA honor.
