WARNER BROS. PICTURES, NEW LINE CINEMA AND METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER PICTURES also launched the official site, www.thehobbit.com, which offers four additional endings to the new trailer. Fans can choose their favorite to create their own version of the trailer to be shared with friends.
Tolkien Week is being celebrated with events all week-long including activities on Friday, September 21 celebrating with parties and feast influenced by the book. The next day, fans around the globe will mark Bilbo and Frodo Baggins birthdays with Hobbit Day. How can they both share a birthday? Bilbo and Frodo were both said to be born on the same day of different years, Bilbo in the year 2890 and Frodo in the year of 2968 in the Third Age (1290 and 1368, respectively, in Shire-reckoning, the Hobbits' own calendar).
The movies official Facebook page has created a communal page with ideas on throwing a Hobbit Party and a "Fan of the Week" contest, and a special app for recipes inspired by Middle-earth. The American Tolkien Society first proclaimed Hobbit Day and Tolkien Week in 1978, though Hobbit Day celebrations existed prior to its official recognition long before the movies where turned into movies.
