The modern-day retelling of the popular kid's story comes courtesy of The Usual Suspects and X-Men director Bryan Singer who reteams with his Usual Suspects' writer Christopher McQuarrie on the screenplay (co-written by Darren Lemke). Bryan Singer was recently announced as returning to the X-Men franchise with the follow up hit to X-Men: First Class. Since breaking out as a writer in 1995, McQuarrie moved to the director's chair in 2000, and has two huge movies directing Tom Cruise's upcoming action flicks Jack Reacher, and the new Mission Impossible movie.
Nicholas Hoult plays Jack the young farmhand in the modern take on Jack and the Beanstalk when he sets out to rescue the princess from the giants. Actor Christopher Hoult first broke out in About A Boy alongside Hugh Grant, but most will recognize him from X-Men: First Class as Hank McCoy aka The Beast. Ironically, Bryan Singer will also direct Nicholas Hoult in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
JACK THE GIANT SLAYER will open in 3D and 2D in select theaters and IMAX on March 1, 2013.
