MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS surpassed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2's record for highest opening weekend to become the highest-grossing debut of all time. Domestically the Marvel blockbuster took in an all-time industry record at $200.3 million, while globally the action film reached $641.8 million.

The film starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlet Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, and Jeremy Renner got a great jump start with the release of the Marvel Studios film internationally April 25 which quickly surpassed $441 million after 12 days. Countries like Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Central America, Bolivia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Philippines saw record breaking openings. Only Israel, Poland, and Japan have yet to open the assembling of Marvel superheroes and stars.
In North America, MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS beat Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2's opening weekend record of $162 million. The $200.3 million weekend opening shattered previous records and positioned the film as the highest-grossing debut of all time.
A sequel to THE AVENGERS won't come anytime soon with three other Marvel sequels headed our way in the next two years. Iron Man 3 with Robert Downey, Jr. is set for release one year from now on May 13, 2013 while Thor's sequel starring Chris Hemsworth is scheduled for later that year on November 15, 2013. The Captain America: The First Avenger sequel is set for two years down the road with a release date of April 4, 2014.
THE AVENGERS is the first Marvel Studios film to be released under The Walt Disney Studios.
