Carlos Gomez walked Ashley through a few tactics to disarm an attacker with a shotgun. Gomez recommends pushing away and grabbing a hold of the gun with one arm while distracting him with a palm strike to the face with the other which will cause the assailant to loosen his grip on the gun. Then you can grab it away from him or her and move away.
Next, the Reality Combat Systems trainer took the training to the car where a thief may hold up a gun to your head from outside the car, jump in the front passenger seat, or from the back seat. His recommendation includes putting your hands up close to your head and moving up to the steering wheel so you have leverage when you make your move. When you're in that position, you grab hold of the butt of the gun and push back your body to the car seat where the attacker will loosen their grip, and bam - get the upper hand.
Next came a knife attack from the back seat. The same principles apply except you grab hold of the wrist holding the knife, and use your free hand to push away the knife from your neck and rotate your hand to the knife handle and pull it away, and stab the person's wrist.
Of course on video it looks easy, but in real-life panic always takes over and this may not seem like a great idea at the time. James Bond makes it look effortless, but then again its make believe movie magic.
