ALL SHE CAN director and co-writer Amy Wendel didn't go the usual route of shooting on digital to save money for her first feature film. The former school teacher wanted the grainy look and chose Super 16mm for her indie drama.
ALL SHE CAN tells the story of a Luz (Corina Calderon), a Texas high school student whose only way out of the struggling small town is through power lifting.
Amy told CineMovie, shooting on Super 16mm would achieve the grittiness she wanted for the story of a teenager struggling to define her future in a town facing economic hardship. Known for her festival award‐winning short films Weightless,Covered Girls, and Bodies, Amy also tells CineMovie how she came about getting funding for the film and the challenges making her first feature film.
Originally titled Benavides Born, the film went to Sundance earlier this year and signed with Maya Entertainment for distribution. ALL SHE CAN is now playing in the Maya Indie Film Series in Los Angeles and New York.
