Where To Watch 'American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez' and Why It Matters 

The acclaimed documentary American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez is coming to theaters nationwide beginning July 17, offering audiences a chance to experience the inspiring story of one of the most influential Latino artists in American history. The documentary will be released in limited theatrical release on the following dates and cities. 

Director David Alvarado and legendary playwright and filmmaker Luis Valdez will participate in special in-person conversations during opening weekends in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

The theatrical rollout will start as follows:

July 17 - New York - Film Forum

July 24 - Los Angeles - Laemmle Theaters, AMC Theaters, Maya Cinemas, Alamo Drafthouse and more

July 31 - San Francisco - Opens at Roxie Theater, Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael, Rialto Elmwood Theater in Berkeley, plus Alamo Mountain View and Valley Fair in the South Bay/San Jose Area

Director David Alvarado and Luis Valdez will join in-person conversations at each of the opening weekends in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

In total to date, over 20 cities across the U.S. are planning theatrical releases of the film, including Santa Barbara, San Diego, North Hollywood, Norwalk, Oxnard, Orange, Ontario, Long Beach, Salinas, Bakersfield, Pittsburg CA, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Chicago, Tucson and more. Theatrical bookings are being handled by mTuckman Media.

The documentary is an important look at Valdez’s groundbreaking contributions to American culture. From co-founding El Teatro Campesino during the farmworker movement to creating the landmark play Zoot Suit and directing the hit film La Bamba, Valdez helped bring authentic Mexican American stories to mainstream audiences. His work opened doors for generations of Latino creators and challenged Hollywood's limited representation of Hispanic communities.

More than a biography, American Pachuco celebrates a cultural pioneer whose impact continues to resonate today. Additional theatrical engagements are planned in more than 20 cities across the U.S., including San Diego, Santa Barbara, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Chicago, Tucson, Bakersfield, and Salinas.
