Sony Pictures and Oscar-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes announced the casting for the women behind the Fab Four in the four-movie event. Meet the extraordinary cast of award-winning talent bringing the story of The Beatles to the big screen like never before.
BAFTA winner Mia McKenna-Bruce, four-time Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird), Emmy and Golden Globe winner Anna Sawai (Shogun, Pachinko), and Emmy nominee and BAFTA TV winner Aimee Lou Wood (The White Lotus) have joined The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event, Mendes’ ambitious new project in collaboration with Apple Corps Ltd. and Neal Street Productions.
McKenna-Bruce will portray Maureen (Cox) Starkey, wife of Ringo Starr; Ronan steps into the role of Linda (Eastman) McCartney, the celebrated photographer and wife of Paul; Sawai will play avant-garde artist Yoko Ono, who became John Lennon’s creative and life partner; and Wood will take on the role of Pattie Boyd, model and muse to George Harrison.
“Maureen, Linda, Yoko and Pattie are four fascinating and unique figures in their own right — and I’m thrilled that we’ve managed to persuade four of the most talented women working in film today to join this amazing adventure,” said Mendes.
Four Stories. One Legend.
Mendes’ upcoming project is unlike any Beatles film before. Conceived as four theatrical features, each movie will be told from one band member’s unique point of view — John, Paul, George, and Ringo — with their stories intersecting to capture the rise, relationships, and legacy of the greatest band in music history.
This marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film — a historic move that has sent excitement rippling across the film and music industries.
The ensemble also includes Harris Dickinson, Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal, and Joseph Quinn as the legendary Beatles themselves. Further casting announcements for key roles — including Cynthia Lennon, Brian Epstein, George Martin, and Ravi Shankar — are still to come.
The Women Behind the Music
Each of the newly announced stars brings serious acclaim and fresh perspective to these iconic women:
• Mia McKenna-Bruce rose to prominence with her BAFTA-winning breakout in How to Have Sex, which earned the Un Certain Regard award at Cannes.
• Saoirse Ronan, known for Lady Bird, Little Women, and Brooklyn, continues to prove she’s one of her generation’s most compelling performers.
• Anna Sawai earned Emmy and Golden Globe wins for her powerful role in Shōgun, drawing global attention for her commanding screen presence.
• Aimee Lou Wood, who charmed audiences in Sex Education and The White Lotus, has showcased her range from comedy to high drama.
Coming in 2028
The films are set for full theatrical releases in April 2028, marking one of the most ambitious film projects ever undertaken about the Beatles’ enduring cultural impact.
