Robert Eggers' upcoming horror film Werwulf is getting a haunting soundtrack from BAFTA-nominated composer Robin Carolan, featuring an original song performed by Ethel Cain. The track, titled "Wynter Waxeth," was co-written by Cain, Carolan, and Eggers and will be released on November 13, ahead of the full soundtrack's December 18 debut.
Werwulf reunites Robert Eggers with four Nosferatu stars — Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson — for another chilling period horror tale.
Carolan, who previously collaborated with Eggers on The Northman and Nosferatu, envisioned a gritty, folksy, and otherworldly sound for Werwulf. Inspired by Cain's album Perverts, the composer recruited the singer for what initially began as a vocal contribution to the score before evolving into a full-fledged song performed in Middle English.
"She sang the song in Middle English, and with Rob's help she mastered the pronunciation on the hop, practically in one session," Carolan revealed, praising Cain for bringing "earthy, feral, haunted beauty" to the score.
Werwulf opens in U.S. theaters on Christmas Day, December 25, 2026, and in the UK on January 1, 2027. The soundtrack arrives digitally on December 18, while physical editions from Sacred Bones Records are available for pre-order ahead of their January 29 release.
