Meryl Streep First Image From INTO THE WOODS

Meryl Streep foregoes the glam look as a witch in the new production INTO THE WOODS and Walt Disney has released the first image from the film, which has just gone into production.

Based on the Tony®-winning original musical by James Lapine, INTO THE WOODS stars Streep as the witch, Depp as the Wolf from the Red Riding Hood, Chris Pine as Prince Charming, Anna Kendrick as Cinderella and Emily Blunt as the baker's wife, Christine Baranski as the evil Stepmother and Tracy Ullman as Jack's mother. INTO THE WOODS is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales in a musical format that follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.  Read offiicial press release.<

Rob Marshall, the filmmaker behind the Academy Award®-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” helms the film, which is currently shooting in England and set for release Christmas Day 2014.
