Directed by Bridesmaids' director Paul Feig, Sandra Bullock treads familiar grounds as an uptight FBI agent (she played one in Miss Congeniality) who partners with a foul-mouthed Boston cop played by Bridesmaids' Melissa McCarthy. Hijinks ensue as the two embark on bringing down a drug lord.
This is a first for buddy comedies where two female leads head up the movie. Typically action buddy comedies feature two males like in Rush Hour, Lethal Weapon, Men in Black, and 48 Hrs. so finally we get a welcome change with two talented ladies heading up THE HEAT when it opens April 5, 2013. The raunch-comedy genre changed forever with the success of the all-star female cast of Bridesmaids, and the same director is looking to translate the same success to the buddy cop genre.
