Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. voice Disney’s iconic lions Mufasa and Scar in the new live-action, THE LION KING prequel. MUFASA: THE LION KING director Barry Jenkins wanted to cast Shakespearean actors to play the young Mufasa and Taka aka Scar. The actors react to Jenkins's requirements for his actors, and Kelvin reveals that his mother once told him he wasn't a good Shakespearean actor.
MUFASA: THE LION KING opens in movie theaters on December 20.
Official Synopsis
Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, “MUFASA: THE LION KING enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.
Disney’s MUFASA: THE LION KING is directed by Barry Jenkins and music by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The voice cast includes Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Theo Somolu, Braelyn Rankins and Anika Noni Rose.
