Watching PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES was the most unpleasant movie experience of my life. Luckily Disney learned from that hot mess of a movie, and DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES returns to the fun that made the original a hit. With a simple plot, a formidable new leading lady, a worthy villain played by the always effective Javier Bardem and a toned-down Jack Sparrow, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES is worthy of returning to the high seas.

On May 25, 1977, people lined up to see a new sci-fi film from an unknown director named George Lucas. I wasn't one of those people. I was only six years old, and I refused to see a movie titled STAR WARS solely based on the sexist movie poster. The movie's one-sheet featured a sexy Princess Leia at the feet of a buff warrior holding some kind of weapon. I said no thanks to my male cousin when he invited me to go see it with his parents. Who knew I was a feminist at the ripe young age of six, but all that was about to change.

What a way to kick off a usually boring Monday morning with news that Johnny Depp and Javier Bardem have been confirmed to join Universal Pictures reboot of their classic movie monster franchise. Universal Pictures has unveiled the name of the new universe as “Dark Universe” along with the logo and news that Danny Elfman scored the new musical theme.
