Warner Bros. unveiled new footage of their upcoming slate in the studio’s The Big Picture Cinemacon presentation. Theater exhibitors and press previewed first look footage from James Gunn's SUPERMAN, Brad Pitt’s F1, Leonardo DiCaprio’s ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER, Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial effort, THE BRIDE starring Christian Bale and Jesse Buckley and FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES and others.
Warner Bros. executives paraded out stars and filmmakers from their four divisions: DC Studios, NewLine Animation, and the main studio.
SINNERS
WB’s next release, SINNERS directed by Ryan Coogler starring Michael B. Jordan didn’t offer anything new. Coogler, currently on a promotional tour, sent a video message revealing the movie was heavily influenced by his love of the blues and how it influenced pop culture. And here we thought the movie was about vampires!!
F1
Joseph Kosinski and Jerry Bruckheimer were on hand to ramp up the film. The director revealed that it was shot during actual Formula 1 races around the world, including the Las Vegas strip, and Pitt was actually behind the wheel, driving at 180 mph.
A scene previewed the action scenes on the track, and Kosinski brings Top Gun Maverick-level intensity to racing.
ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER
Regina Hall, Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor made an appearance at CinemaCon for the Paul Thomas Anderson film which was produced in Vista Vision for IMAX.
DiCaprio revealed he’s been a long-time fan of Anderson and wanted to work with him for a while. Hall admitted working with DiCaprio has long been on her bucket list.
A short funny clip followed featuring DiCaprio and Benecio del Toro’s character. In the preview, DiCaprio’s Bob speaks by phone to his daughter’s kidnapper who only requires the password in form of a code but Bob reveals his permanent short-term memory loss prevents him from recalling the much needed information in a funny exchange. The phone call takes place in Del Toro’s home as he attempts to calm the neurotic Bob.
THE BRIDE
Maggie Gyllenhaal directs her second feature, THE BRIDE, with Christian Bale playing a Frankenstein-type character with Jesse Buckley as his bride. As the film title suggests, the main focus is the monster’s leading lady. The film also stars Penelope Cruz, her brother Jake Gyllenhaal and her husband Peter Sarsgaard.
Gyllenhaal and Buckley appeared on stage. The director revealed her inspiration, which occurred after seeing someone’s Frankenstein tattoo. She rewatched the original 1931 Frankenstein. The Bride’s appearance in the movie was under 3 minutes, according to Gyllenhaal, and she had no dialogue. She felt the need to expand on Mary Shelley’s original story by focusing on the Bride. The filmmaker described the movie as a horror flick, “the characters do monstrous things, but they are our heroes.”
Buckley compared the couple to a horror version of Bonnie & Clyde and the“punkest love story.”
A trailer was screened, and THE BRIDE can be categorized as a bizarre love story. Buckley’s character is murdered and buried. Someone resurrects her mutilated body for Frankenstein. Bales’s disfigured and grotesque face shows some happiness after obtaining his new companion but she’s not entirely on board yet.
NEWLINE
A highlight reel revealed NewLine’s upcoming slate with first look footage:
MORTAL KOMBAT II
Karl Urban shows off his kung fu moves in MORTAL KOMBAT II as Johnny Cage and we get a glimpse of other characters in action.
THE CONJURING: LAST RITES.
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson return for THE CONJURING: LAST RITES. The clip shown teases some unfinished business from the prior movies regarding Farmiga’s Lorraine.
FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES
A 10-minute scene from FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES kills off two characters in the nastiest ways.
WEAPONS
BARBARIAN director Zach Cregger returns for another horror flick with WEAPONS (August 8) starring Josh Brolin and Julie Garner. Children from Garner’s classroom go missing in a mysterious way. Is the teacher to blame? The exclusive trailer suggests it has something to do with her past.
WB Animation
Bill Hader is THE CAT IN THE HAT (February 2026) for a new movie around the Dr. Seuss character. In the exclusive clip, Hader is perfect as the mischievous cat.
Melissa McCarthy voices Margie Clause - set for release in 2027 - Concept art revealed a bit of the character who bears a striking resemblance to the actress.
Other titles of upcoming animated movies included:
BAD FAIRIES
THE LUNAR CHRONICLES
EMILY THE STRANGE
THE FLINTSTONES
LOONEY TUNES
DC Studios
Closing out the CinemaCon presentation, DC Studios head James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled only one title from the new division’s slate - SUPERMAN. The pair brought out the new Superman, David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Rachel Brosnahan.
The group spent quite a lot of time on stage reminiscing about their time on set playing iconic characters. Nicholas revealed that he auditioned for Superman and Batman, but was denied. He was bummed but maybe he was meant to be Lex Luthor.
Gunn also discussed his influence behind Krypto, Superman’s dog. Krypto is based on his rescue dog who loves to bite his bare feet and misbehave.
There’s a reason the SUPERMAN director told the CinemaCon audience the story. A five-minute scene from the summer film screened and Krypto isn’t exactly a “good dog.” Get a detailed breakdown of the exclusive clip here.
