Antonio Banderas plays the arty boyfriend of Annette Bening, Paul Dano's on-screen mother. In this RUBY SPARKS clip, Pau Dano is a young novelist introducing his imaginary girlfriend to his mother. Struggling with his writing, his psychologist recommends creating a character that will inspire him. A week later, Ruby (Zoe Kazan) appears on his couch, and becomes his girlfriend.
Actress Zoe Kazan, granddaughter of legendary filmmaker Elia Kazan, wrote the script with her real-life boyfriend Paul Dano in mind.
