Trekkies got a first look last week with the first teaser trailer, and a new poster featuring the new Star Trek 2 baddie played by Benedict Cumberbatch. The overall theme for the previews is destruction - just what we like to see in our action movies.
While the name of the villain isn't clear in the previews, Benedict Cumberbatch's character is out for revenge on the USS Enterprise and Earth. The movie poster mimics the teaser trailer as we see the villain standing center admiring his work of destruction.
Fans will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the J.J. Abrams sequel when 9-minutes of the film preview ahead of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey starting December 14 exclusively in IMAX theaters. The move marks the first time exclusive footage has played in IMAX 3D theaters ahead of its release. Certain sequences from the follow-up to 2009's Star Trek was shot using the high-resolution IMAX cameras.
