The British film company, Merchant Ivory, introduced Emma Thompson, Helena Bonham Carter, Hugh Grant, and Anthony Hopkins to the world through their Academy Award-winning works such as HOWARD'S END, A ROOM WITH A VIEW, THE REMAINS OF THE DAY among others. A new documentary by film director and theater producer, Stephen Soucy takes you behind Merchant Ivory's successful run with director James Ivory and producer Ismail Merchant at the helm.
The MERCHANT IVORY features interviews with Dame Emma Thompson, Helena Bonham Carter, Hugh Grant, Vanessa Redgrave, Rupert Graves, and James Wilby. Footage from more than fifty interviews, clips, and archival material gives voice to the family of actors and technicians who helped define Merchant Ivory’s Academy Award-winning work of consummate quality and intelligence.
With six Oscar winners among the notable artists participating, these close and often long-term collaborators intimately detail the transformational cinematic creativity and personal and professional drama of the wandering company that left an indelible impact on film culture.
MERCHANT IVORY is in select theaters including LA and NY on August 30.
