Antonio Banderas' PUSS IN BOOTS Release Date Pushed Up

Antonio Banderas' return as Puss in Boots will come sooner than expected. Dreamworks SKG has moved up the release of the Shrek spin-off up by one week to October 28. Puss is now up against Shakespeare, Johnny Depp, Justin Timberlake, and Rowan Atkinson's return as Johnny English.
The 3D animated film's original release date was scheduled for November 4th where it would have faced off with no real competition (Harold and Kumar 3D sequel, Tower Heist) from similar fare. There is no real competition on its new date either with a Johnny Depp period drama (The Rum Diary) and Justin Timberlake's sci-fi thriller In Time. Roland Emmerich's Shakespeare period drama Anonymous also opens along with the return of Johnny English starring Rowan Atkinson.
No reason was given for the change but it probably wanted to get the heads up holidays with Happy Feet 2 and Arthur Christmas (in 3D) opening November 18 and 23rd, respectively.
PUSS IN BOOTS is an origins story on how the charming kitty came to be before we meet him in Shrek 2. Salma Hayek, Banderas's Desperado and Once Upon A Time in Mexico leading lady, lends her voice as Puss In Boots co-star along with Zach Galifianakis (Due Date), Billy Bob Thornton, and Amy Sedaris.
Way before Puss ever met Shrek, our suave and furry feline hero goes on a swashbuckling ride, as he teams with mastermind Humpty Dumpty and the street-savvy Kitty to steal the famed Goose that lays the Golden Eggs.
PUSS IN BOOTS is in theaters October 28, 2011.
