Zack Snyder's Superman reboot finally has a title suitable for the Man of Steel and the actor is named to play his nemesis, General Zod.

In a surprising but smart move, the new Superman movie starring Henry Cavill, will not be using the iconic name in the movie title.  Instead you will be seeing Superman's nickname MAN OF STEEL headlining movie posters and theater marquees.

Michael Shannon in Revolutionary RoadWarner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures also announced Sunday the latest in casting news.  The role of Superman's nemesis General Zod will be played by Boardwalk Empire's Michael Shannon.  The Academy Award-nominee (Best Supporting Actor in Revolutionary Road) has big shoes to fill, following Terrence Stamp's near perfect villain in the first two Superman films with Christopher Reeves.  But director Zack Snyder has faith in his new star,  "Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”

Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) joins the growing list of Academy Award winners and nominees cast in MAN OF STEEL including Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Superman's parents.

Snyder told CineMovie in March, the new Supeman movie will be unlike his previous films with a more straigh-tforward look instead of his signature style as seen his previous directorial efforts (Sucker Punch, 300).  Producer Deborah Snyder also revealed Henry Cavill is currently prepping physically to become the man of steel with a full-time regiment which started this month.

MAN OF STEEL is being produced by Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, Inception, Dark Knight) and screenplay by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins) based on a story by Goyer and Nolan.

MAN OF STEEL will be released in 2012.
