Wait! Is this Man of Steel or the new Wolverine movie trailer? Another superhero grows facial hair to stop looking like a superhero. The full-length trailer to THE WOLVERINE has arrived and Logan is not a happy camper.
In the new trailer, we first meet up with Logan as a scruffy-looking homeless man running away from his problems. The follow-up to X-Men Origins: Wolverine picks up after X-Men: The Last Stand in which the death of Jean Grey/Phoenix has obviously left Logan grief stricken. Famke Janssen makes a brief appearance in the trailer as perhaps a memory of Grey.Luckily, Logan shaves off the bushy beard soon into the new preview for his trip to Japan after being coaxed into traveling to meet up with old acquaintance who promises him mortal life. Once in Japan, his healing powers are jeopardized for some reason. Looks like Wolverine will have his work cut out for him this time. 20th Century Fox teased the coming of the trailer with two under a minute previews using animated gifs in addition to releasing two motion movie posters leading up to the first full trailer.
The scruffy look is in for superheroes this year. The new Superman movie, Man of Steel, Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) is also doubting his abilities as the people’s savior. Kent dons a full beard as a fisherman before he is called into action. Add Bruce Wayne to that mix in The Dark Knight Rises, and you’ve got a trio of comic book characters wishing they were ordinary citizens. So I gather that being a superhero isn’t all that cool.
Watch for this brooding X-Men to bring on the action in a movie that already looks 10 times better than his last outing when THE WOLVERINE claws its ways into movie theaters July 26, 2013.
