What does love mean and can you be in love with one person for your whole life? That seems to be the message of the media shy and elusive filmmaker's latest project. From the trailer, we gather Ben Affleck (Neil) and Olga Kurylenko (Marina) seem madly in love with an intesity that's poetic. Enter the mistress Rachel McAdams who confuses the relationship between the couple. Javier Bardem, playing a priest, narrates part of the preview suggesting that love is often not enough and you "run the risk of betrayal," when you commit but that failure can transform into a higher purpose. Now that's deep. To the Wonder's official synopsis offers up more information about the possible four-way relationship. Marina and Neil move to Oklahoma, where problems arise. There Marina meets Javier Bardem, a priest and fellow exile who suffers from doubts about his vocation.
Written and directed by Terrence Malick, you're suckered into the beautiful imagery and music. The A-list stars make it even more appealing with an interest to see where this complicated love story goes. Let's hope there are no sidetracks to prehistoric times and galaxies far away in this one.
TO THE WONDER opens in movie theaters April 12, 2013.
