10 DC Comics Coming to the Big Screen Through 2020

Our heads are spinning with the announcement of 10 DC superhero projects heading our way through 2020. Below is the slate which includes giving Green Lantern another shot at the movies, and a big screen version of The Flash with a different actor attached. And finally we get confirmation that Jason Momoa will be Aquaman. Wonder Woman finally gets her day in the sun with a stand alone film in 2017. Shazam is also coming to the big screen, but no actor has officially been cast in the role of the other man in tights. Cyborg, the only black superhero among the group will debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but he too is getting a big screen solo treatment with Ray Fisher in the role.

Director Zack Snyder will extend his vision to the second part of superhero assembly with a Justice League sequel. Fury and End of Watch director David Ayer joins the DC world as director of Suicide Squad, a lesser known comic book about super villains working for the government. Given Ayer’s track record for casting Latinos in the lead role, we can’t wait to see what he brings to this ride. Suicide Squad is scheduled to open in 2016, the same year as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the first try at assembling the DC heroes.

Below are the 10 projects in order of release date.

- “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” directed by Zack Snyder (2016)
- “Suicide Squad,” directed by David Ayer (2016)
- “Wonder Woman,” starring Gal Gadot (2017)
- “Justice League Part One,” directed by Zack Snyder, with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams reprising their roles (2017)
- “The Flash,” starring Ezra Miller (2018)
- “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa (2018)
- “Shazam” (2019)
- “Justice League Part Two,” directed by Zack Snyder (2019)
- “Cyborg,” starring Ray Fisher (2020)
- “Green Lantern” (2020)

The news came first to Time Warner investors at Wednesday’s meeting with Chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara outlining a strategy for all their divisions including television and other movie properties.

Other theatrical strategies include three more LEGO movies including a sequel to The LEGO Movie and a stand alone for LEGO Batman, hopefully with Will Arnett reprising his role as the wise-cracking crusader.

J.K. Rowlings will also continue the world of wizardry inspired by Harry Potter’s Hogwarts featuring magical creatures and characters from an original script written by Rowlings, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. David Yates who directed the last four Harry Potter movie will helm all three films opening in 2016, 2018 and 2020.

Let the superhero madness begin. Wish we were a fly over there at Marvel.
