AUDIO: Zac Efron Not The Mushy Type?

Zac Efron THE LUCKY ONE Interview
Starring in a Nicholas Sparks movie immediately transcends any leading men into heartthrob status but THE LUCKY ONE star Zac Efron doesn't need any help in that department. Zac Efron, however, did have to overcome his cynism when it came to delivering some overly romantic dialogue that men wouldn't be caught dead saying...at least in public.

Zac Efron plays Logan a Marine nearly killed in Iraq who goes in search of the woman in a picture he found which saved his life.  When first reading THE LUCKY ONE script based on the popular romance novel by Nicholas Sparks, a few "red-flags" went up for Zac when he came across a couple of melodramatic lines that didn't ring true for a man to say to a love interest. But then he recalled some of his own moments in his personal love life that had him saying "crazier" things in the name of love.
The-Lucky-One-Zac-Efron-movie-still"There is this cynical part of you that [just] the red flags go off with a couple of lines. But then I think back in moments that I've been in, you know, and I've said things way crazier than that. So it's all relative.  There was a little bit of sugaring when I realized I'd have to do it on camera, but I think a bit of pride too. You know... I don't know."
Zac may have had some reservations uttering sweet-nothings to his LUCKY ONE leading lady, but when it came to the sexy love scenes with Schilling, the actor joked it was the easiest part of the shoot. Zac explains that acting out love scenes is at times perceived as "weird" and "awkward", but the 25-year old says the trick to love scenes is trusting your co-star and building a friendship before the big day."
Romantic scenes get built up and they're alway looming it seems like. And there's other people don't want to talk about it because its got this weird awkward perception but once you get there, if you're with somebody you really trust, you know.  I thought it was one of the easiest days."
Taylor Schilling agreed with Zac's assessment of the love scene and added that the friendship they developed leading up to the love scene made it a lot more "comfortable" than she expected. What also helped, according to Zac, was the director's instruction to add their own spice as they would in real-life.  Zac joked he obliged that request and gave it his all to make it as "[expletive] romantic" as possible.

Fans will appreciate Zac's commitment to his role and his shirt-less scenes when THE LUCKY ONE opens April 20, 2012.
