For Jason Statham’s latest role, he puts himself in the shoes of a soldier suffering from post traumatic stress after a tour of duty in Afghanistan. The REDEMPTION star sits down with CineMovie to discuss his role in the gritty film by a first-time director.

Jason Statham fans have seen plenty of action and wild stunts in his movies, but in REDEMPTION, he portrays a character based on reality.  He’s not only beating bad guys to a pulp, but battling his own demons as a war veteran.

For his research of the role of an ex-Special Forces soldier, he learned ten percent of the homeless are military veterans who end up on the street, he told CineMovie’s Justine Browning during our sit down in New York City.  He added that he can understand where these veterans are coming from in that they return from a violent setting to a place like London where the skills they acquired as Special Forces are no longer needed or wanted. “You learned something and you were good at that, now you’re no good at anything,“ he adds.  Then in addition to that, he says the post-traumatic stress from being in a war zone is interfering with resuming a normal life.

On a lighter note, the action star also talks about working with first-time director Steven Knight who Statham states is one of the most sought after screenwriters in the business.  The writer behind Eastern Promises and Dirty Pretty Things takes the helm in front of the camera in his feature film debut with much success, according to the action star.  Statham actually prefers working with writer/director’s because the vision is not lost in translation from paper to screen.
