“New Girls” star Damon Wayans, Jr. subjected himself to ladies groping him and being smothered underneath a sumo wrestler-sized man’s privates for his new buddy comedy, LET’S BE COPS. The ladies part wouldn’t be so bad, but his co-star Jake Johnson reveals it was funny to watch Wayans, a real-life germaphobe, play out the scenes.
Damon Wayans, Jr. and and Jake Johnson play pretend LAPD officers in LET’S BE COPS. After donning police uniforms for a costume party that was really a black tie affair, Justin and Ryan realize the two are going nowhere in life until they feel the power and respect in police officer uniforms. Justin and Ryan venture out as LAPD and get into all sorts of trouble including playing strippers to a bunch of horny women. For the scene, Damon, with his shirt open, gyrates on one woman’s lap while others grope him, but he tells them not to touch the goods in a ladies voice. During an interview for LET’S BE COPS with the close friends and “New Girl” co-stars, Jake says Damon improvised the line about not touching, but Damon admits there was personal issue at hand in that scene.
Jake: Also the way Damon just danced like, Ew! Don’t touch. Don’t touch.’ That was all him. That wasn’t in the script. We were like, ‘It would be funny if you acted like a lady stripper.’
Damon: Well I was stripper but I’m also a germaphobe. I’m like, ‘Ew! Ew! Hand sanny. Hand sanny.’”
Even worse for the LET’S BE COPS star was having to be trapped under a naked, heavy-set man’s junk. Damon joked that if they made a sanitizer for the brain he would implant it because it was quite a gross experience for him.
“He was definitely up on me. I didn’t like it. It’s weird because when you see those things that close up to your face , it blurs. That’s how close it was… just traveling. They hit my eyelashes.”
Jake takes it one step further by ribbing Damon that they had to delete his improvised line, “Me Likey” from that intimate scene with another man’s crotch. Damon shrugs if off as false, “Why would I say that?”
So if you ever run into Damon Wayans, Jr. in person, don’t take it personally if he doesn’t shake your hand. It’s a germaphobe thing.
