Ray Park on Returning As Darth Maul in New Star Wars Films (Video)

If Boba Fett and Han Solo are getting Star Wars origin stories, why not Darth Maul. Actor Ray Park who played evil Sith, tells CineMovie, he is more than willing to reprise his role as the double-wielding light saber character.

Since George Lucas handed off the reigns of the Star Wars franchise over to Disney, Disney has announced plans to release one Star Wars film a year starting with the J.J. Abrams directed Star Wars VII in 2015. Like Marvel, Disney hopes to launch standalone spinoffs of some of our favorite Star Wars characters like the adventures of a young Boba Fett and Han Solo.

Darth Maul only appeared in one Star Wars film (Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace), but the coolness factor of the character outlived the less than stellar trilogy (Episodes 1,2, 3) . While promoting his latest project as Snake Eyes in the home release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Ray Park, who donned the red and black paint as the Sith, wouldn’t mind coming back to the Star Wars franchise. He tells CineMovie he was excited about the new Star Wars film, but he hadn’t thought about returning as Maul until everyone else talked about a possible spinoff involving the character.
“I was excited about the possibility of the new Star Wars, but I didn't once think about me coming back.  Talking to everybody, now I'm getting excited.  I'm practicing my two-sided light sabers in hopes that I be asked. I would love to do it. I would love to come back as Maul and take the top off and do the whole tattoo body and robot legs. It be fun.”
While there are no announcements involving a storyline around Darth Maul, Park is hoping Disney comes calling. Even if Darth Maul doesn’t get a Star Wars origins story, the martial artist and stuntman could always return to the Star Wars movies as a different character in costume.

Until then, Ray Park hides behind another costume as Snake Eyes for the Blu-ray and DVD release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation starring alongside Dwayne Johnson and Channing Tatum.
