Not even Hollywood could come up with such a preposterous story such as the one seen in Michael Bay’s PAIN & GAIN, based on a true story about a heinous crime committed by a trio of bodybuilders in Miami, Florida. Ripped from the headlines like an episode of Law & Order, PAIN & GAIN chronicles the bodybuilders plan to extort and kidnap a man’s wealth that goes horribly wrong. In 1999, Michael Bay read the three-part series in New Times about the Sun Gym Gang crimes in the 1990’s and decided to adapt it for the big screen.
PAIN & GAIN stars Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, Anthony Mackie as the bodybuilders and partners in crime. Tony Shalhoub, Ken Jeong, Ed Harris, Rebel Wilson, Rob Corddry and Bar Paly also play real people involved in the unbelievable story.
The film premiered in South Beach Florida with the stars, director Michael Bay, the screenwriters, and real life detective responsible for bringing the trio to justice. Zay Zay was on the red carpet asking the guests what details about the real-life crime didn’t make it into the movie and what surprised them the most about the gruesome story.
