A fun sci-fi comedy in the vein of TREMORS, ALIEN COUNTRY, now available on digital platforms, brings small-town charm to an alien invasion movie. The new release combines humor, action, and a touch of horror.
The story centers on Jimmy Walker (K.C. Clyde), a local demolition derby driver, and his pregnant girlfriend, Everly (Renny Grames), an aspiring singer. Together, they accidentally open a portal that releases bio-engineered alien creatures on their unsuspecting town. The movie hooks audiences with an opening high-speed police chase involving a mysterious glowing orb, followed by a time jump that introduces Jimmy and Everly grappling with unexpected life changes.
As luminescent alien creatures invade Blue River, Jimmy, Everly, and a close-knit circle of friends and family band together to protect their home. The ensemble cast brings a sense of authenticity, grounding the outlandish story in relatable, small-town camaraderie.
Director and co-writer Boston McConnaughey, alongside his wife, co-writer and lead Renny Grames, injects plenty of humor into the action, making even tense moments lighthearted. The aliens’ design, featuring unique, glowing details, stands out, and the special effects, while modest, add to the movie's quirky charm.
The alien design is unique with luminescent features that give it a cool look. The special effects are pretty decent for a low-budget science-fiction flick.
With notable similarities to TREMORS, ALIEN COUNTRY captures a familiar feel through its desert setting, small-town dynamics, and humor-driven fight against a shared menace. It may not aim to be a cinematic masterpiece, but it’s an entertaining, tongue-in-cheek experience that leaves room for a sequel.
ALIEN COUNTRY is streaming on platforms like iTunes/Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, Fandango at Home, Vimeo, DirecTV, Dish Network, Dish Digital, and local cable and satellite providers.
