Movie Review: 'Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip'

Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Road Trip Disney Plus movie review

ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD ROAD TRIP is a delightful family comedy premiering on Disney+. The film stars young actor Thom Nemer as Alexander, with Eva Longoria and Jesse Garcia portraying his parents. The cast also includes Cheech Marin, along with cameo appearances by Cristo Fernández from Ted Lasso and Harvey Guillén from What We Do In The Shadows.

The story follows 11-year-old Alexander and his family on a dream vacation to Mexico City. Their plans go awry upon discovering a cursed idol, leading to a series of misadventures. The family's resilience is tested as they strive to return the idol to its rightful place.

Throughout their journey, the family encounters a string of comedic misfortunes. Each character contributes to the humor, with Longoria and Garcia showcasing excellent comedic timing. Nemer's portrayal of Alexander is particularly endearing, capturing the character's innocent nervousness and paranoia about his perceived bad luck.

While the narrative occasionally emphasizes the family's connection to their heritage in an overbearing way, the film remains an entertaining choice for family viewing. ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD ROAD TRIP is available to stream on Disney+ starting Friday.
