Movie Review: HORRIBLE BOSSES

Colin Farrell and Jennifer Aniston in HORRIBLE BOSSES movie review

Who hasn't fantasized about getting rid of their boss? The premise of HORRIBLE BOSSES is tantilizing enough to get you into the movie theater and luckily the comedy delivers with an entertaining ensemble cast that leaves you wanting more.

Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day hatch a scheme to off each of their horrible bosses with the help of Jamie Foxx. Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey, and Colin Farrell are the nasty bosses taking advantage of their power. The three friends set out to  look for a hit man but when the hit man (Foxx) turns out to be a con artist, they decide  to kill each others bosses. It's not as easy as they planned when things go awry as one of the bosses goes psycho, and making their lives even worse.

Horrible Bosses movie reviewIt's rare for Hollywood to come up with an original idea especially for a summer time  movie. HORRIBLE BOSSES stands out from the rest with a unique and fun plot. While all the  characters are one-dimensional, you enjoy the antics and the twists the film provides.  Judging by the roaring laughter at times, the audience had a good time watching this  comedy.

Jason Bateman, SNL's Jason Sudeikis, and Charie Day make a good trio as best friends but  it's Charlie Day who steals the show with his awkward humor only he knows how to deliver.  Jason Sudeikis is talented but once again he's playing a repeat of his character from Hall  Pass. Jason Bateman always gives a different performance in each of his films and in HORRIBLE BOSSES, he doesn't disappoint as the serious and rational one of the bunch. His comeback is well-deserved.

And who knew you could have a good time watching Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell be so  bad. We have never seen these two actors like this.  Whoever thought you could be repulsed by Colin Farrell's looks but his transformation into a drug-addicted scumbag with a hideous comb-over did the trick. Farrell is hilarious in the role and left you wanting more.

The same goes for Jennifer Aniston. The Friends star finally sinks her teeth into a juicy role that shows range.  We always knew she had it in her but it took her countless romantic comedies and dramas to show up off her stuff which she sure did --physically. In  her sexiest role yet, Aniston's brunette, over-sexed dentist parades in slinky outfits and even harasses Charlie Day's character by wearing nothing but her lab coat and undies at  work. She owned that character and it payed off. The last time she went brunette she gave  an excellent performance in the Good Girl.

Kevin Spacey was a nasty person in HORRIBLE BOSSES but we're used to seeing the Superman Returns actor as a unscrupulous boss in Swimming With The Sharks. Nothing new from him.  Jamie Foxx also has fun with his character as a murder consultant who sips his drink through a small straw.

There are some twists and turns not expected from the comedy but it worked to bring some danger and drama into the picture. Running less than two hours, HORRIBLE BOSSES went rather quicky and ended just in the nick of time before it overstayed its welcome.

The A-list ensemble cast is what really made HORRIBLE BOSSES so enjoyable. Casting Aniston and Farrell in small roles as the villains was a smart move. Lesser known actors wouldn't have made it as fun than seeing these two tabloid favorites play it deliciously bad to the core. I'm almost hoping for a spin-off with these two characters.

HORRIBLE BOSSES is now playing in movie theaters.
